Cambly group lessons are geared towards English learners* who are excited about engaging in discussions and meeting new people from all over the world!
Lesson lengths may vary as we learn how to create the best group English learning experience possible.
*Cambly Group lessons are intended for adults 18+ years of age.
Who can participate?
Cambly Group lessons are intended for adults 18+ years of age:
- Group lessons may occasionally discuss topics that aren’t suitable for children.
- You may be dismissed from Group lessons if you appear to be under 18.
I don't have an active plan
Students who do not have an active plan can purchase a Groups Only plan. Just go to the Groups Subscription page. Then, choose from 1 or 2 lessons per week for one month!
Once you’ve subscribed, you can schedule your lessons right from your home page!
I have an active plan
Only students who have been invited to try group lessons can schedule a group lesson with their plan minutes. You'll see an invitation to try English tutoring in a group setting on your homepage, click on it, or go directly to your calendar to schedule a group lesson!
We ask that all participants continue to follow the Cambly Code of Conduct.
How to join a Cambly group lesson?
If you’ve subscribed to a Groups Only plan, you can join your lessons from the Upcoming Lessons section of your home page!
Current students can join a group lesson in the same way as a scheduled lesson!
A. Enter directly from your Calendar page.
B. Call right from the Upcoming Lessons pop-up.
C. Click on the [Start Lesson] button at the scheduled time.
You can join your group lesson up to five minutes before the lesson starts. Then, be sure to press “Continue” once your tutor has joined the lesson.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do these lessons use my plan or Anytime minutes?
Yes, for each group lesson you schedule, you are using one of the weekly lessons included in your plan. You will not be able to use Anytime minutes to take a group lesson.
If I have a Groups Only plan, can I purchase Anytime minutes?
No, only students with a private plan can purchase Anytime minutes.
Do group lessons follow Cambly Courses?
Group lessons give students the chance to practice their English by freely discussing topics they’re interested in while still being guided by a Cambly tutor. So, they don’t follow Cambly Courses.
Instead, each student in the group gets to share experiences, information, and ideas related to the lesson topic. Here are the topics you can choose from:

Can I take more than one group lesson?
Yes, you can schedule as many lessons as you have included in your plan!
You can even take the same lesson topic more than once. You'll have the chance to meet new people in each group lesson making every discussion unique.
Let’s say you love movies and television, you could take the lesson, New in Entertainment every week. You can be sure to have new and interesting conversations about what's happening in the world of entertainment every lesson!
What if I get disconnected during the lesson?
You will be directed to a page that lets you know that you were disconnected. You can then choose to reconnect to the classroom or go back to your homepage. You can even try refreshing the page anytime you need!
What if the Group lesson didn't happen or wasn’t completed?
If you or your tutor cancel in advance, your lesson is automatically returned. You can then schedule a new lesson for any time before 3 am the next Monday!
If the lesson ends completely or your tutor is unable to reconnect, you can ask for your lesson to be returned. Just follow these step-by-step directions in our Help Center!
Can I review the lesson recording in my Lesson History?
At this time, you will not be able to review a lesson recording. However, you will see any group lessons you've taken listed in your Lesson History. So, please feel free to take notes during your lesson!
